7 things you can do to improve your mental wellbeing

In today’s complex world, it’s very easy to feel like you don’t have any control over what you think or the way you live your life. With society overworked, overstressed and your attention always divided, it’s increasingly important to be mindful about mental health in order to support good psychological wellbeing. Feeling good is worth investing some time in and there is help at hand.

Here are 7 things you can do to improve your mental health:

Talk to friends

If you have a particular issue that you’re worried about, talking it through with a friend or somebody close to you is a way to take ownership of that problem. Instead of bottling it up inside, which can lead to anxiety, by verbally going through something often leads to clearer solutions.

Don’t compare yourself to others

Acceptance of the self is incredibly important. No one in the entire world can do a better job at being you than you. Although it is a useful exercise to gauge those around us to see where our development is in relation to others, we often only really end up judging ourselves. Therefore, it’s more beneficial to redirect the comparison to a past and a present self and keep the comparison within.

Take some time for yourself

It’s essential to make time where you can properly relax and unwind from the stresses of your professional or personal life. During this time you can figure out how to deal with the things that are weighing you down and feel rejuvenated about putting these plans in to practise on your return.

Keep educating yourself

Learning new skills is a brilliant way to keep your mind active as well as providing you with greater confidence to try these new things. There’s no greater sense of accomplishment that participating in that cooking class you had always wanted to do, or picking up a guitar you’d only ever dreamed of playing.

Follow your passions

When a person is enjoying what they do, they no longer feel a sense of dread about going to work. They say if you follow your passions the money will follow. So look at what you can do in your life to make this happen because if you truly relish what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life and will be a lot happier as a result.

Unselfishness

Caring for others is an often overlooked, but has an equally important role to play in our mental health. Even the smallest act can count, whether it's a smile, a thank you or a kind word. By doing this, you can build long lasting relationships that can bring you closer to people and improve your wellbeing.

Stay active

We all know how significant sustaining a good level of health is to our existence, but how many of us actually adhere to this common knowledge is a different story. We’re not saying you need to be a regular in the gym, but by taking a walk, cycling or getting involved in a sport is a great way to stay fit.

We hope we’ve demonstrated that changing your outlook on life doesn’t have to cost the earth.  Mindfulness on the subject ensures that you can deal with those ups and downs that we all experience and by following this advice can have a big impact on your mental health and wellbeing.
