Peter Graham

Peter is our Director of Quality and Improvement. Managing the Quality and Improvement team at Head Office, he ensures that we are always moving towards improving the services we provide in collaboration with the people we support.

After qualifying as a Registered Nurse in Mental Health in 1998, Peter spent 15 years in the NHS in a variety of roles, including working as a staff nurse, deputy ward manager and ward manager. Peter left the inpatient environment to set up and manage the Early Intervention in Psychosis service in Liverpool city centre.

He was appointed as a part time lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, where Peter was a cohort lead for undergraduate nursing students, and also taught on the post graduate Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) course. He has also held honorary contracts at the University of Salford and currently has an honorary contract with the University of Liverpool.

Prior to joining Making Space, Peter was the Associate Director of Nursing and Quality at Priory Healthcare. As well as undertaking this role, which spanned the East Midlands, the North West, Yorkshire and the North East, Peter was also the regional patient safety lead, regional IPC lead and lead for Safewards.

Peter is proud to have watched a number of staff he’s taught, coached and mentored go on to have amazing careers in care. Care planning is also a big passion of his. “I have been involved in research that has led to a number of articles being written and published in Nursing Journals, and also the development of a game (CLINGO) which is used as a teaching aid for care planning and has presented across the UK and Europe at the European Conference on Mental Health.”

In his current role at Making Space, Peter will continuously review and improve the systems and processes we have and make sure our organisation is one that learns lessons and provides the safest care for the people we support. “After many years in the NHS and Independent sector I was looking for a spiritual home, somewhere that provided great care that was driven by great values. I feel like I have found that with Making Space. Our organisation truly is driven by the people we support, their voice is evident in what we do.”

In his spare time, Peter enjoys listening to a wide variety of music, watching films and listening to audiobooks. Both he and his wife, who he says is his biggest influence in his personal life, enjoy appreciating time in nature and walking their dog, Mishka.
