Our Social Value

Social Value refers to the broader value an organisation creates through its everyday activities, including the wellbeing of individuals and communities, the social capital generated, and the environmental impact.

We want to showcase and evidence the fantastic work happening across Making Space, introduce new and valuable initiatives, and involve people from all areas of our organisation.

By working closely with our Co-production colleagues and the people we support, we will ensure inclusivity, feedback, and continuous improvement.

The Social Value Act 2012 requires the public sector to ensure that the money it spends on services creates the greatest economic, social and environmental value for local communities - GOV.UK

We will use our Social Value intelligence to:

  • Grow or protect our funding - By showing what we're doing well and promising to do even more, we can attracted new opportunities and keep existing funding
  • Make a real difference - We want to understand the good we're doing, because it matters to us
  • Make better decisions - We use real data and evidence to guide our choices and investments, rather than relying on guesswork or past habits

Our areas of focus and social value pledges for 2025/26

Employment and Volunteering

We pledge to be a recruiter of choice for employees and volunteers, treating everyone as individuals, ensuring they are trusted, valued, and supported through recognition and reward, while providing clear pathways for growth. We are committed to equality, creating opportunities for those who share our values and empowering them to thrive.

Health and Wellbeing (Internal)

We pledge to support the health and wellbeing of our people—employees and volunteers—recognising that those who are well-supported are best equipped to provide the highest quality of support to others.

Health and Wellbeing (External)

We pledge to equip individuals with life skills and holistic care, ensuring they leave our support able to maintain or achieve independence and thrive in their next chapter.

Environmental

We pledge to educate ourselves to minimise our environmental impact as an organisation and use our influence to drive positive change in those around us.

Economic

We pledge to use the power of our spending, prioritising local suppliers and organisations like ours wherever possible, to ensure our funds go further in supporting the community. We will use our spending as a tool to educate and demonstrate the impact of supporting local and charitable enterprises.

Education and Skills (Internal)

We pledge to provide the education and skills necessary for those we recruit to thrive in their roles, for all our people—employees and volunteers—to reach their full potential.

Education and Skills (External)

We pledge to show our employees, volunteers, and supporters how their work drives meaningful change, helping them see the bigger picture and believe in our vision and social value commitments.

Social and Community

We pledge to build strong community links and forge effective partnerships, enabling us to reach and support more people together, creating lasting social impact.

Housing

We pledge to advocate for housing choice and ensure access to safe, energy-efficient homes, providing dedicated support and guidance to help individuals navigate their options and build secure, sustainable futures.

Innovation

We pledge to making technology accessible, enabling people to find information independently. By focusing on with, not for, we support lasting independence and free up time for meaningful interactions.
