Co-production

The term co-production refers to a way of working that combines our mutual strengths and capacities so that we can work together on an equal basis to achieve positive change.

It is about breaking down the organisational and invisible barriers between people who use services, people who provide services, and people who design services. It emphasises doing things with people rather than doing things to people or for people.

Co–production at Making Space

Co-production at Making Space is an intentional act and starts from the principle that everybody has valuable skills, knowledge and experience to offer. It goes beyond involving or consulting with the people we support. It begins with what everyone can give or do, and enables everyone to work together towards shared service ownership. It helps teams to move away from focusing on people’s needs and doing things to or for them.

To help everyone understand more about co-production we have put together a guide that includes examples, the benefits it brings to Making Space and when it has the best chance of succeeding. We have also created an easy read video guide, which you can watch below.

Our commitment to Co-Production

Co-production is at the core of our commitment to social care. Having a voice, feeling valued and being recognised and respected for who you are is something we feel very strongly about at Making Space. Our new strategic plan for 2024- 2029 reaffirms our commitment to co-produce our services with the people we support and their carers.

Making it Real

We use Making It Real, based on Think Local Act Personal’s national framework, for co-productive service action planning and improvement. People we support and staff work together to plan and achieve positive change.

Across our organisation we help everyone to understand the benefits of working co-productively and we ensure it runs through the culture of our organisation. We have put together a guide that includes examples, the benefits it brings to Making Space and when it has the best chance of succeeding.

Making Change Group

At Making Space we have forum consisting of people who use our services, volunteers, Trustees and colleagues called the Making Change group. Making Change Group is a welcoming space for people who use our services to help improve our organisation. We cover topics such as event planning, staff recruitment, Making It Real, learning and development, and much more. Please contact us if you would like to join our group.
