Warrington Day Centre is a space for people living with mental health conditions to socialise and to get involved in meaningful activities to help build confidence and skills to support people to achieve their goals.
On average, around 15 to 20 people go to the centre regularly. They get involved in various activities such as cooking groups, health and wellbeing, music and socialising.
Why should you volunteer?
Food and socialising have always gone hand in hand. But for people who live alone, without relatives or a support network nearby, mealtimes can be a lonely time of day. This is a good opportunity for you to help others feel less isolated whilst also gaining experience, giving something back and meeting people.
What will you be doing?
- Preparing food, serving meals and giving a friendly welcome to diners.
- To use the till and encourage people to pay for their meal – money goes back into the service and not for profit.
- To carry out your role in accordance with organisation health and safety policy.
- To respect people’s confidentiality and to report concerns when appropriate
What skills and experience will you need?
Ideally, we would like you to have some knowledge of mental health illness but not essential. We are looking for people that are reliable, friendly, caring, and have a friendly manner. A food hygiene certificate would be desirable, but training is available for people who can volunteer regularly for over 3 months.
