A blooming success! Celebrating B&Q's support for our resident's wellbeing

At Making Space, we know that gardens aren’t just about plants - they’re about creating spaces where people can feel calm, connected, and uplifted. Green spaces have a remarkable power to soothe, heal, and nurture, which is why we’re so excited to share the transformative work done in partnership with B&Q this summer. Their incredible generosity and community spirit have helped us create beautiful, peaceful gardens across our residential care facilities, benefiting residents, visitors and staff.
We’d like to give a huge thank you to the B&Q teams from Warrington, St Helens, and Northwich for their support of our garden projects. Not only did they each generously donate £1,000 worth of vital materials, but each store sent along six volunteers, who also rolled up their sleeves and spent hours working with us to bring our outdoor spaces to life.
Talking about the transformation in Ashwood Court in Lowton, Sherdley Court in St Helens, and James House in Northwich, Shane Parnell, Making Space Associate Director of Operations, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to B&Q for their generosity and dedication to improving our residents' wellbeing.
“Their hard work has transformed our gardens into peaceful retreats where residents can relax, recharge, and enjoy the fresh air. These spaces now serve as essential sanctuaries, offering calm and respite from the stresses of daily life.
“Residents and visitors alike have commented on the positive impact these gardens have had, with many taking pride in maintaining their new outdoor spaces.
“The bright, welcoming areas are now perfect for a range of activities, including BBQs, outdoor games, and quiet moments of reflection.”
