Celebrating our 74 apprentices this National Apprenticeship Week 2025

Published 10 February 2025
We are proud to support the 18th National Apprenticeship Week (10-16 February), a week-long celebration that brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
This year, the theme for National Apprenticeship Week is 'Skills for Life,' highlighting how apprenticeships can help individuals develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and employers to develop a workforce with future-ready skills.
We are proud to have approximately 74 active apprentices across Making Space, participating in various apprenticeship programs, including our Care Apprenticeships across levels 2 to 5, Community Health and Wellbeing Workers and a Data Analyst.
Making Space Learning & Development Manager, Anna Evans, highlights the value of apprenticeships for colleagues at Making Space:
“As an organisation that truly values the development of our employees, we see apprenticeships as an invaluable tool for ensuring our teams have the appropriate skills to excel in their roles.
"I am incredibly proud of the positive impact our apprenticeship program has had on learners, both past and present. Beyond offering the opportunity to gain professional qualifications, apprenticeships empower individuals to build confidence, deepen their expertise, and unlock exciting career opportunities.
“At Making Space, we want every colleague to be the best they can be, and apprenticeships play a significant role in that. For us, investing in apprenticeships ensures we continually build a skilled, motivated, and forward-thinking workforce. It’s a win-win that benefits both our colleagues and the people who rely on the exceptional care and support we provide.”
Here are some insights from our current apprentices as they share their experiences:
Maj Akhtar, Systems and Data Co-Ordinator (People Services)
Received a Distinction Level 3 Data Technician and is now in process of signing up to Level 4 Data Analyst
As a single mum, 34-year-old Maj balances work, family, and personal development seemed like an impossible challenge - until an apprenticeship with Making Space opened the door to new opportunities. By combining hands-on learning with consistent support, she gained valuable skills in data analysis, legislation compliance, and problem-solving, transforming her career and mindset. Her journey is a testament to the power of apprenticeships in creating meaningful change and proving that it’s never too late to learn, grow, and succeed.
"My apprenticeship has been life-changing. It gave me the skills, confidence, and support to grow both personally and professionally. The functional skills I developed, like data analysis and improving my English and Maths, have been invaluable in my role. The support I received from Making Space was incredible, my colleagues and managers were always there to guide me, encourage me, and help me succeed. To anyone considering an apprenticeship, I’d say go for it! Don’t be afraid to ask for help, embrace the journey, and know that it’s never too late to learn, grow, and achieve your goals."

Anne Alexander, Senior Support Worker (Rivacre House Residential Home):
Completed Level 2 in 2023, Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker in 2024 and is signed up to her Level 4 Lead Practitioner in Adult Care
Anne, a dedicated team member at Rivacre in Ellesmere Port, embarked on her apprenticeship journey after completing her Care Certificate, determined to expand her knowledge and develop her career in health and social care. Through her Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships, she gained a deeper understanding of care standards and developed practical leadership skills, such as using the GROW feedback model to support her team. With the unwavering support of her managers and colleagues, Anne not only excelled academically, earning double distinctions, but also gained the confidence to take on new opportunities, including joining the Care Workers Advisory Board to advocate for care workers nationwide.
"My apprenticeships have been transformative, giving me the skills, confidence, and support to grow both personally and professionally. Progressing through Level 2 and Level 3 felt like a natural journey, with each building on the last, and now I’m excited to tackle the challenges of Level 4. My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship is to take the leap and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Consistency is key, breaking tasks into manageable steps really helped me, as did the incredible support from my managers and the team at Rivacre. The learning process might feel daunting at times, but it’s worth it for the growth, knowledge, and opportunities it brings."
