National Walking Month
May is National Walking Month and we want everyone who works for us, volunteers for us and who use our services to achieve something special as one big team! We are #MakingPace!
Lots of us are now walking more and more due to other exercise options not being available at the moment, and it’s giving us the opportunity to rediscover the lovely surroundings we live near. It’s something that we’re even seeing in the news, as Captain Tom Moore completed the amazing challenge of walking 100 lengths of his garden before his 100th birthday.
Inspired by this staggering achievement, and to celebrate National Walking Month, we are encouraging everyone at Making Space to dust off their best walking shoes and, as one big combined effort, walk a total of 7,723 miles, the circumference of the United Kingdom.
We know that you all complete amazing achievements on a daily basis and we are so proud of everyone at Making Space. There is no doubt that we will be able to excel at this challenge and together, as one big team, reach our goal of 7,723 miles!
How you can get involved
Getting involved is easy, simply complete the attached form, stating how many miles you’ve walked, and return it to the Marketing Team at the beginning of each week. This will allow us to regularly update our miles metre, showing how many miles you’ve smashed and how far we have left to go.
Please also share our National Walking Day Challenge poster, to help promote the challenge at your services.
Everyone can take part
This challenge is for everyone at Making Space! Staff, volunteers and people we support are all invited to take part, no matter your fitness level, and we encourage you all to do your best. If you’re unable to go on outdoor walks you can still be a part of this amazing effort by counting miles indoors. We don’t want you to feel that you have to go on long walks in order to contribute. If you would ordinarily walk shorter distances then please still let us know, as every effort will help us get that little bit further!
We know that you all complete incredible achievements on a daily basis and we are so proud of everyone at Making Space. There is no doubt that we will be able to excel at this challenge and together, as one big team, reach our goal of 7,723 miles with a smile on our faces!
Facts about walking
Walking also provides many health benefits including improvements to mental health, increased fitness levels and a reduced risk of heart disease and strokes. So why not rack up the miles not just for Making Space but also for yourself and improve your fitness whilst having fun?
