£19,000 grant to support for carers in Doncaster
People living with dementia and their carers will have greater access to more services in Doncaster thanks to a generous donation from local charity DonMentia.
DonMentia is a charity, which is volunteer-led, that offers support to those affected by dementia and their carers.
Making Space has received a grant of £19,000 which will help to fund a full time carer support worker (until March ’23) to be based in The Doncaster Admiral Team (TDAS team). This post will offer telephone befriending support to carers and to support discharge of existing cases, which will reduce the waiting list of the service.
This new initiative will also improve the take up of the service from BAME communities, and create two volunteer posts who will be available to support and befriend carers.
Cath Magee, Regional Head of Operations at Making Space, said "This is wonderful news for families and loved ones in Doncaster. It can be a very difficult time caring for someone that you love who experiences memory loss or confusion. It can be a very lonely time for the carer too and this initiative will provide a life-life to those in need".
