About Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Carer Support
We understand that caring for a family member or loved one is a very generous and selfless thing to do. Caring for someone with mental ill-health can also bring its own challenges.
Being a carer can take its toll on your own physical, emotional and mental health. We are here to support you in your caring role, help you to navigate the mental health system and perhaps help to bring some balance back into your life with increased knowledge and understanding.
Our carer support service, funded by Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council, provides you with carer support workers who are experienced in mental health and the mental health system.
What we offer
We work with you on a one to one basis with a named support worker. Our service is tailored to fit you, and we are led by your needs.
Our support isn’t time limited and we will support you in your caring role, for as long as you need us. So whether you simply need someone to talk to about your own concerns, help with the complex needs of the person you care for, or someone to speak on your behalf, we are here for you.
Our friendly and experienced staff can offer:
- One to one support with a named support worker
- Carer-led organisation, with carer's needs put first
- Care-led groups across the county
- Specialist information sessions
- Signposting to other services, organisations and charities
- Information on mental health conditions and an understanding of the mental health service
- Informed walks around places of interest
- Day trips, including boat trips, visits to the coast and the Christmas Lights at a stately home
Partnerships
We work in partnership with Caring Together and Centre 33, to provide an all age carer support service.
Centre 33 is for all young people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough with emotional and practical support. If you are a young carer they can help with assessments, one to one support, specialist carer groups, information and advice, along with support around transitions into adult services. Centre 33 also support those working with young carers including their families, schools and partners to help them understand individual needs and provide help. You can contact them on 0333 4141809 or youngcarers@centre33.org.uk, or drop in and see them.
If you are aged 18 or over and caring for someone, Caring Together is there to help you. It does not matter who you care for or what their condition is. They can help you with specialist information and advice. Also with support for planning ahead, including emergencies and what to do when your caring role is likely to come to an end. They also provide opportunities to meet other carers, develop skills and knowledge to help in your caring role and where possible, to have a break from your caring role. Whether you need support face-to-face, online or over the phone they are there for you. They strive to ensure the voices of carers are heard and their needs recognised. In order to find out about their full range of other services contact them at caringtogether.org, on 0345 241 0954 or via email at hello@caringtogether.org.
