Teaming up to deliver food to those who need it most

Our team at head office and Warrington Day Service have been going the extra mile to help deliver food parcels to people in the local community, thanks to a donation from The Hut Group.

The Hut Group, who have been supporting vulnerable communities, key workers and the emergency services during the Covid-19 outbreak, contacted our fundraising team to offer a donation to people in the local area who may be in shielding.

The global e-commerce business, who have a warehouse in Warrington, delivered a huge quantity of food to staff at the services, which was sorted through to ensure it was divided fairly and efficiently.

They were able to deliver our most vulnerable people who use Warrington Day Centre with a very generous amount of food, we think the correct unit of measurement would be a ‘shedload’!

In an attempt to reduce social isolation, the service has taken a number of its groups and activities online and have been offering weekly cookery sessions, allowing people to follow an online demonstration, cook along and eat together virtually.

The team encouraged those who received donations from The Hut Group to join the online cooking demonstration, using some of the basic ingredients they received in their special delivery.

Service Manager, Claire Jones said: “This hugely generous donation has been used to feed vulnerable people with mental health conditions using our Warrington Day Service many of whom are self-isolating or need to shield themselves from COVID-19.

“We have been able to use lots of the donated products to enable more people to join in with our virtual cooking groups.

“The cookery group helps people cook a healthy, low budget meal; increasing their confidence, increasing their confidence, improving their knowledge of nutrition and encouraging socialising with others."
