About Sandalwood
Sandalwood Day Centre supports older people living with dementia and other health related concerns with their health and wellbeing. This helps give families some respite, supports people to do meaningful activities, have a balance healthy meal and encourage people to have fun and improve their quality of life.
Why should you volunteer?
This is a good opportunity to give something back whilst gaining health and social care experience, to be part of a friendly team and do something rewarding. You will be supporting people to have fun, use their skills, keep active and with staying well.
What will you be doing?
-
Encourage and support people to get involved in an activity they enjoy. Staff know people who come to the centre well and can support you with doing activities that suits people interests and that they enjoy.
-
To run an activity that you enjoy and is appropriate for people who come to the centre. For example this could be playing music, dancing, arts and crafts, games or gardening.
-
To work with staff with refreshments and ensure people keep hydrated e.g. making tea and coffee and reminding people to drink. People living with dementia can forget to eat and drink which can affect their health and wellbeing.
What skills and experience will you need?
Some experience supporting people living with dementia is useful but not essential. You need to be patient, willing to try things, can work as part of a team and a people person.
