About Rotherham Dementia Carer Service
Making Space is a values led charity and its vision is for wellbeing to be at the heart of social care.
Across Rotherham, Making Space runs peer support and activity sessions for people living with dementia and their families. These cafes reduce social isolation and helps with a person’s wellbeing. It also allows people to meet others in a similar situation to share ideas and to talk to people who understand what they are going through.
Why should you volunteer?
This is a good opportunity to join our team of award winning volunteers where you can learn from others, give something back, have fun and gain experience.
At the cafes, 20-50 people come to the cafes and a number of people do need some extra support to get involved. You will be helping people to have fun, reduce isolation and increase peoples’ quality of life.
What will you be doing?
- To volunteer at one (or more of the cafes) in Rotherham on a regular basis.
- To provide support and appropriate encouragement with people getting involved in activities at the cafes.
- Assisting with serving refreshments (e.g. tea/coffee).
- To signpost and provide information to people at the groups and to report any concerns to staff at the cafe.
- To respect confidentiality and follow organisation procedures.
What skills and experience will you need?
No qualifications are needed. Some knowledge/experience of supporting someone living with dementia is useful but not essential. We are looking for volunteers that want to help others, caring, patient, have good communication skills and reliable.
