A community star - David Ord
David Ord, our rural development officer in Lancashire, was awarded the community engagement award at our 2017 employee awards. David won the award for his passion and dedication to building partnerships in his local community.
But his work didn't stop there, over the past year David has continued to work on various different projects that give back to the community and support volunteers to get involved. Here are just a couple of the projects that David has worked on:
Quarry Bank Community Gardens - Man Shed Project
David was successful in securing a grant of £16,646 from Whitemoss Landfill to purchase the materials needed to develop a 'man shed project' at Quarry Bank community gardens. The rest of the money needed was raised during the year by volunteers through the likes of fruit and veg sales, hanging baskets, plants and other produce sales.
Galloway Community Garden
Over the past year, David has supported volunteers and members of the probation service community payback team to complete the installation of a polytunnel within the community garden area. The frame for the polytunnel was donated by Quarry Bank community gardens and the covering was funded by a donation from Penwortham Parish Council.
A gardening group is help here every Tuesday throughout the year for people in the community to come and enjoy.
The gardening group also received 3 community awards from The Royal Horticultural Society awards. Well done everyone!
