Derby City Dementia Service have received a generous grant from Foundation Derbyshire
The Derby City Dementia Service provides support, information and guidance for those living with memory loss, confusion or dementia, and for their carers.
Foundation Derbyshire provided a grant of £3,760 that has enabled the team to buy 10 smart tablets and pre-paid sim cards. The aim of using the tablet is to prevent social isolation and encourage people to stay connected through online weekly zoom sessions run by the service, as well as with their family and friends during this difficult time.
The team currently host 2 weekly zoom sessions, every Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoons. The team hope through the use of extra tablets that more people will benefit from attending regular virtual sessions as they did when they were able to take place face to face.
James Nagra, a Dementia Advisor at the service, has worked tirelessly to get the tablets up and running and has begun delivering them to those most in need and giving them a short tutorial of how to access zoom calls.
Mary Brown, Team Leader, said: “For people living in Derby, our service encourages wellbeing, keeps people informed and offers them the support that allows them to stay independent while adapting to the different stages of memory loss and dementia.
"These are tough times, but we are doing everything we can to offer extra support to people who use our service. The tablets will make a huge difference for people and will enable them to stay connected with support services such as ourselves.”
Thanks again to Foundation Derbyshire for their support.
