We're celebrating being finalists for 26 awards!
We are in the running for a variety of national and regional awards, including five which recognise workers’ outstanding contributions during the coronavirus pandemic.
Rachel Peacock, CEO, said: “This year has been the most difficult in memory for so many people.
“One of the positive things that has come out of the current situation is that people are recognising the amazing contribution made by key workers, including those working in social care.
“Making Space has always known that social care keeps the country running and that support workers are true heroes.”
Shortlisted employees include IT field technician Andrew Haworth, who, despite being identified as high risk for Covid-19 due to his type one diabetes was adamant to not only continue his work, but also to take on additional responsibilities.
This included delivering PPE to services, often undertaking 14-hour days and driving up to 700 miles a day.
Debra Hanrahan, a support worker at our Leeds Supported Housing Service, she has been shortlisted for The Housing With Care award. She is being recognised for the person centred support she provides.
Debra believes in every person she supports, even when they don’t believe in themselves. She takes time to work up care and support plans with all twelve individuals, knowing that many will struggle with some of the goals that they have set for themselves.
