Around the World with Making Space
On Friday 18 November we invited 350 people we support and volunteers to our Around the World with Making Space event at The Pavilions of Harrogate.
Each year we host an event for volunteers and the people who access our services, to come together and enjoy a day filled with activities, exhibitors and experiences - all centred on a theme of their choice.
With the help of our Making Change group, this year’s event is culture and travel.
We came together and celebrate different cultures and had the opportunity to explore the world, experience different foods and take part in a variety of activities.
From origami making, to Bollywood dancing and having fun in the photo booth, it was truly an unforgettable day.
Guests arrived bright and early to enjoy a breakfast sandwich and to take in beauty of grounds of the event. The event was launched by our CEO, Rachel Peacock and our host Peter Dillion, Director of Operations.
We broke the ice with the help of our Bollywood dancer and had the opportunity to join in, following this we formed a unified foot percussion orchestra with the help of our Gumboot drummers.
Lunch was served at our tables so we can recharge ready for the afternoon sessions, whilst a musician will be entertained us whilst we tuck in to our afternoon tea.
We then learnt about all of the great benefits of Tai Chi and how beginners can start exercising.
We finished the day by shining a light on the incredible achievements of the people we support and our dedicated volunteers during an awards ceremony.
On top of all the fantastic main event activities, we wanted to make sure guests got as much out of the day as possible, the stalls, which were located in the welcome wing, were open all day to give guests choice over how they spend their day.
Through a cross-functional project team, consisting of people we support, Trustees and employees, we planned, organised and hosted a very successful event.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to be with us. The day wouldn't have been possible without everyone who helped us: our brilliant volunteers on the day who gave their absolute all, our employees who supported people on the day, and to the people we support who got involved in the organising of the day, you're support is truly valued.
