The third annual Making Space Canal Walk, in memory of David Lyne, took place on Wednesday 8 May and the rain stayed away for the third year in a row too!

It has been a pleasure to revive a long standing Making Space tradition and bring members of the Making Space family together for an annual stroll alongside some beautiful waterways. It provides an opportunity for colleagues, volunteers, the people we support and their families to come together in a scenic location and celebrate all things Making Space.

Since 2022, we have visited the canals of Cheshire, West Yorkshire and this year Burnley, Lancashire.

Over 30 enthusiastic walkers joined us, meeting at Finsley Gate Wharf, before taking a pleasant ramble along the Leeds/Liverpool canal. We took in views across the old mills of Burnley to the Pennines and then enjoyed the tranquillity of Thompson Park, where we spotted squirrels and some very cute goslings before heading for home.

The 3k walk was enjoyed by all and we would like to thank everyone who joined in.

Fundraising manager, Bob Towers added, “We have raised over £350 in sponsorship from the canal walk but this event isn’t just about raising funds. It’s always a pleasure to spend time with so many different members of the Making Space community. Representatives from services in Burnley, Blackburn, Liverpool, Wigan, Warrington, Clitheroe and Accrington joined us so it was great to bring together so many different services.”

The Making Space Canal Walk will be back in 2025 in a new location and we’re already looking forward to it.
