Celebrating the women at Making Space

March 2024 · min read

The theme this year for International Women's Day is to Inspire Inclusion, making women feel empowered through having an increased sense of belonging and relevance.

International Womens Day 2024

With that in mind, we wanted to highlight some of the inspirational women who work at Making Space and who live the Inspire Inclusion theme.

Rebecca Read - Support Worker, Limes Place, Colne

Rebecca Read is an inspiring support worker passionate about bringing residents together and making a difference.

Rebecca worked with all the people she supports to implement the Limes Place talent show. She held regular rehearsals with each person who was participating on the stage and also inspired people who were offering background support on the day, such as one person who filmed the event.

She is a real asset to the team as she will take on new challenges and look at ways to implement these, while also working in a person-centred inclusive way to enable everyone involved to have a voice.

Susan Walker - Support Worker, Sandalwood Day Centre, Doncaster

Susan Walker ensures everyone can be involved in activities while attending Sandalwood Day Centre.

She takes the lead with arts projects, promoting new skills to attendees such as needlecraft, painting and cooking.

To ensure people with limited eyesight could be involved with games at the service, Susan purchased special dominoes with raised dots, allowing attendees to rely on touch rather than their eyesight.

Jayne Trofa - Carer Support Worker, Bradford and Airedale Carer Support Service

Jayne Trofa is one of our support workers, supporting carers at Bradford and Airedale Carer Support Service.

She has been an innovator in developing healthy and mindful ways for carers to have breaks, leading walking and craft groups, and has identified needs in the Bradford area for carers who support their adult children with Autism and mental health issues.
