Supporting adults with a Learning Disability and/or Physical Disability, aged 18 and over, living in the Barnsley area who are funded by Barnsley Council or ICB.

Silver Street offers a planned short break service for up to 5 people at a time, and provides an emergency respite service for 1 person.

Our aim is to ensure that people, or the person they’re supporting, have a short break that meets their needs – whether this be busy and fun-filled or calm and relaxing.

We can provide 1-2-1 support if this is identified as a requirement in the care and support plan. All meals and snacks are provided as per each person’s dietary needs and wishes. All beddings and linen are also provided.

Access to the service will only be via referral from Barnsley Teams, specifically:

  • Specialist Adult Team
  • Planning for Adulthood Team
  • CHC Team
  • Locality Teams

Referrals from any other sources cannot be accepted and will be directed to the Contract Officer.

The service will develop positive solution-focused working relationships with all the referral teams. You will be allocated a number of units to use over a year, with each unit being a 24 hour stay.

A home from home

Silver Street benefits from having 6 large bedrooms, which are all en suite (including one large bathroom with a fully accessible hydro bath). We have 1 large living room as well as a kitchen/diner room. Our service is all on 1 level so we are able to offer support to individuals with a variety of physical needs.

You can continue to attend other routine activities such as attendance at Day Services during respite stays. However, for those who do not attend day services or who prefer a break from routine activities, the respite service will be available and staffed at appropriate levels 24 hours per day

We have excellent staff training which can be adapted to support people who may have more complex support needs.
