Two teams of support workers will be competing for the same national award in recognition of the work they do to support Darlington residents in their own homes.

The Darlington Extra Care Team and the Darlington Rapid Response Team have both been shortlisted in the Care Team category of the Housing With Care Awards.

The national awards are being held for the first time this year to recognise and celebrate excellence in supported and extra care housing.

The Care Team award will be given to the team who are able to best demonstrate a shared vision and agreed goals. Teams should have an excellent communication process and each member’s skills should be recognised within the team.

Demonstrating a commitment to dignity and privacy for tenants and respect for team members will be important elements for the judges in deciding who takes home the trophy. Winners will be announced at a ceremony at the London Marriott Hotel on Grosvenor Square on 9 June.

Darlington Rapid Response The Social Care Covid Hero

Cath Magee, Regional Head of Operations and nominated both teams for the award.

“The Darlington Extra Care Service is an impressive group of six services, all with one common aim: supporting people to live independently in their own homes,” says Cath. “Last year, this team supported 162 tenants in four extra care residential services.

“The Rapid Response Team support people in their homes who need emergency support within a quick timeframe, including people discharged from hospital or carer breakdowns. They do anything from personal care, meal preparations, housework, shopping, prescriptions, medication – all highly personalised – in collaboration with social services and district nurses.”

Both teams are managed by Rebecca Liddle who, says Cath, provides excellent leadership of six team leaders, six senior support workers and 104 support workers.

“There are far too many people to nominate independently, but every single member of this wonderful team delivers quality, consistent care,” says Cath. “There’s never a need for agency staff, as each team member is skilled and intuitive in identifying and filling gaps in care. They really to pull together to ensure the people of Darlington get the care they need, when they need it.”

Manager Rebecca Liddle will be representing both teams at the final. She says:

“To have the teams nominated for awards is brilliant and testimony to their hard work and dedication. I’m so proud of them all. Everyone single one goes above and beyond each day to ensure the people who need it get the best care and support.”
