Climbing Snowdon for Making Space and Lymphoma Action
Crosfields Ladies football team, based in Warrington, will be using their feet for a different challenge by climbing Snowdon to raise funds for us.
The over-30s football team is embarking on a trek on 1 July, and will also be raising funds for Lymphoma Action.
Lymphoma Action is a charity close to the hearts of team members, following a team members diagnosis with both lymphoma and breast cancer last year. Although being successfully treated for breast cancer, treatment for lymphoma is ongoing and the group hope their challenge will help raise awareness of the condition.
The team chose to raise money for Making Space to help us continue to help those struggling with mental health issues in Warrington and Wigan.
Crosfields Ladies was originally set up by a group of mums who stood on the touchline watching their children play football, it has evolved from those early days and has since had an influx of players who joined for the 2022/23 season, which culminated in them winning the Championship in the She Inspires League.
Coach Cath says: "I am immensely proud of the team this year not only in its achievements but in the support, it provides to each player.
“We have a great comradery who look out for each other. We have a whole range of abilities from all different backgrounds, but we all come together as one for the team.”
Cath too was helped by her teammates when she was told she could no longer play due to a double hip replacement. This was a huge blow to Cath who had recently come back to playing football. With the support of her teammates, Cath wanted to remain involved with the club as it had given her great joy.
They gave her the means to complete her Introduction to Coaching qualification with the FA and in her first year has assisted the team in their Championship success.
She says, "Being part of a team and involved in sport can transform your physical and mental wellbeing it has certainly helped me and others in the team.”
Bob Towers, Fundraising Manager at Making Space, said: “For the past 40 years, money fundraised and donated to us has helped us provide personalised care which has made a world of difference to the people we support.
“As well as fundraising, it’s great to see people coming together to raise awareness of mental health and other health conditions.
“Thanks to our supporters, we are able to help the people we support live independent fulfilling lives.”
