July 2023 · min read

Naveed, who works with supported housing tenants at Waterhouse Court, was one of over 150 people nominated for our Making Space Colleague Awards. He was also a finalist in the Newcomer category at the national Housing With Care Awards earlier this year.

He took home the trophy after judges praised his positive impact at Waterhouse Court, saying his “friendly manner and easy-going outlook” had a positive impact on tenants.

Naveed was presented with his trophy at a ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool, with a keynote speech by motivational speaker and leadership expert Gavin Ingham. The audience heard how Naveed supports people to take pride in their appearance and helped them to focus on wellbeing.

“Naveed is very flexible, always happy to work at short notice and always with a smile and a pair of helping hands,” said service manager Sajeed Daji, who nominated him for the award.

“He’s helped set up internet access and IT devices for our clients to help reduce isolation, supports people with their personal wellbeing and positive lifestyle choices, and promotes and embraces different cultures.”

Naveed said: “I’m really pleased to win the Making Space Newcomer Award for 2023. Having the passion and can-do attitude to strive better for myself and for my tenants at Waterhouse Court pays off in lots of ways! I’m sure there are many more positive moments to come and exciting events to accomplish.”

Alison Everett, Skills for Care area manager, and Making Space trustee Katharine Wykes judged the Newcomer of the Year award. They selected Naveed for his “sheer enthusiasm”, adding: “Naveed impressed us with the care he delivers to the 12 people he works with. He has demonstrated innovative thinking in his work and an eagerness to improve himself through learning and development.”

Our Making Space Colleague Awards recognise and pay tribute to individuals and teams who inspire others, go above and beyond expectations and make a real difference to the lives of the people supported by the charity.

The awards were sponsored by telecommunications provider Focus Group.
