National Volunteers Week, from 1 to 7 June, is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering in their communities.

Warrington Day Service

In Warrington we’re incredibly fortunate to have the support of local volunteers to help us reach hundreds of people across the town.

The Warrington Day Service provides tailor-made support, friendship and resources to people across Warrington - and we couldn’t do it without our trusty volunteers. Every day, they help our care workers to run activity groups, provide support in our café and tend to our wellbeing garden to keep it looking neat and tidy and ready for events.

Claire is one such volunteer. “Attending and volunteering at Warrington Day Service is something that I and others really enjoy,” she says. “Working in the garden is a great example of how volunteering can help improve both mental and physical wellbeing.

“Members of the service came together to tidy up the garden making it a welcoming environment for all who want to connect with nature and find peace and solace. Everyone worked together and no amount of help big or small went unnoticed and everyone felt proud of their achievements “

Mary volunteers at the Warrington Day Service Café, where members can enjoy an affordable warm meal, socialise and access help and support.

She says: “I really enjoy participating as a kitchen assistant for Making Space. Volunteering is a rewarding experience for me because it allows me to contribute to the community. It also provides opportunities to develop new skills, meet new people, and gain a sense of fulfilment and purpose.

“I learnt so much in cooking method and kitchen manner, and the whole team are lovely. The people we support are friendly and they really appreciate what we do here. It’s a meaningful and fulfilling experience, and I would recommend anyone to join if you want to spend your spare time making a positive impact.”
