Warrington Day Centre is a space for people living with mental health conditions to socialise and to get involved in meaningful activities to help build confidence and skills to support people to achieve their goals.

On average, 15 to 20 people go to the centre on Allen Street regularly. They get involved in various activities such as cooking groups, health and wellbeing, music, quizzes and sometimes people like to sit and chat to someone

Why should you volunteer?

This is a good opportunity to meet people and volunteer as part of a friendly team. You will also gain experience in health and social care whilst giving something back to help others.

What will I be doing?

  • To volunteer at the day centre assisting staff and other volunteers.
  • Spend time with people, build rapport and provide emotional support.
  • Encourage people to get involved in things they enjoy, e.g quizzes, reading, games, and music. You will also have the opportunity to run activities.
  • To carry out the role in accordance with the health and safety policy.

Who are we looking for?

Some knowledge and experience of mental illness is useful for this opportunity. We are looking for people who are reliable, friendly, caring, have good communication skills and are good at motivating and gently encouraging other people.

During your application, a DBS (Disclosure Barring Check) may be done depending on your volunteer role. Your volunteer contact will support you with this and a positive disclosure doesn’t necessarily disqualify you from volunteering with is. The DBS is free of charge and will involve filling out an online form and bringing proof of ID.
