Across Rotherham, Making Space runs peer support and activity sessions for people living with dementia and their families. These cafes reduce social isolation and help with wellbeing. It also allows people to meet others in a similar situation to share ideas and to talk to people who understand what they are going through.
Why should you volunteer?
This is a good opportunity to join our team of award winning volunteers where you can learn from others, give something back, have fun and gain experience.
You will be helping people to have fun, reduce isolation and increase peoples’ quality of life.
What will I be doing?
To volunteer at one (or more of the cafes) in Rotherham on a regular basis.
To provide support and appropriate encouragement with people getting involved in activities at the cafes.

Assisting with serving refreshments (e.g. tea/coffee).

To signpost and provide information to people at the groups and to report any concerns to staff at the café.
To respect confidentiality and follow organisation procedures.
Who are we looking for?
No qualifications are needed. Some knowledge/experience of supporting someone living with dementia is useful but not essential. We are looking for volunteers that want to help others, caring, patient, have good communication skills and reliable.
During your application, a DBS (Disclosure Barring Check) may be done depending on your volunteer role. Your volunteer contact will support you with this and a positive disclosure doesn’t necessarily disqualify you from volunteering with is. The DBS is free of charge and will involve filling out an online form and bringing proof of ID.
