Garden Project Volunteers

Syrian House is a residential service that supports people with various mental health diagnosis with building confidence, developing living skills with the aim for them to live more independently.

We are looking for garden project volunteers to help motivate residents to get involved in the garden. Gardening is a great activity for people to connect outside, be more active and to have a sense of achievement for both residents and volunteers.

Why we need you

This is a good opportunity to meet people, be active, use your skills and experience. There are lots of benefits to gardening and getting outside for residents at Syrian House and yourself.

What will I be doing?

  • To work with residents and staff to develop the garden.
  • Managing the general maintenance of the garden e.g. weeding, pruning, watering plants
  • To treat people with respect following the organisation's Equality and Diversity policy
  • To follow Making Space Health and Safety policy and procedures and to act responsibly

Who are we looking for?

For this role do you need knowledge and experience of managing a garden but you don’t necessarily need qualifications in gardening. You will need to be adaptable, creative, reliable and good being part of a team and volunteering with limited supervision. Some knowledge of mental health diagnosis is beneficial but not essential.

As part of the application process, a DBS (Disclosure Barring Check) will be completed. This is free of charge and it would involve filling in an online form and bringing in some identity documents to be verified. A positive disclosure does not necessarily disqualify you from volunteering with us.
