Making Space Befriender

Rivacre is a residential service supporting 12 people that have a long term mental health conditions. The services encourages people to develop their living skills and manage their health with the aim for that person to become more independent and to achieve their goals/ambitions.

Why we need you

We are looking for volunteers to spend time with people that are feeling isolated and to encourage/support people to get involved with activities they enjoy. We are also looking for someone to support people with doing leisure activities in the community. This will help to build a person's confidence and increase their wellbeing. You will also get the chance to meet other people, gain experience and have fun when volunteering.

What will I be doing?

• To volunteer a few hours a week at a time that is convenient for you
• Spend time with people that are feeling isolated and provide a listening ear
• Encourage people to get involved in things that relate to their interests
• Support people with going out in the community one to one e.g. shopping, going for a coffee at the local cafe/pub
• To follow the organisation's policies and procedures

Who are we looking for?

No qualifications are needed but some experience/knowledge or mental health conditions is useful. We are looking for volunteers that have an interest in other people, are willing to learn and are a good listener. Training will be provided during your induction and you'll get the chance to learn from other people.

During your application, a DBS (Disclosure Barring Check) may be done depending on your volunteer role. Your volunteer contact will support you with this and a positive disclosure doesn’t necessarily disqualify you from volunteering with is. The DBS is free of charge and will involve filling out an online form and bringing proof of ID.
