Activity Organiser

The Academy has 22 supported living apartments where people have the best of both worlds, living independently while getting support from staff on site. The Academy has communal spaces on the ground floor where tenants come together to do activities, build skills and socialise with other tenants. As a volunteer, you would be organising and running an activity with tenants to keep active, socialise and to do something meaningful.

Why should you volunteer?

This is a great opportunity to meet people, help others, gain experience and share an interest with others. We are looking for volunteers to run an activity relating to either chair exercises, mindfulness and/or beauty as this is something tenants have expressed an interest in.

What will you be doing?

  • To liaise with staff and tenants about organising activities and getting materials for these
  • To run the activity with a small group (about 3 to 4 people) or one to one)
  • Encourage people to get involved, using their skills and to build confidence
  • To follow organisation policies (e.g. health and safety, equality and diversity, confidentiality)

What skills and experience will you need?

Some knowledge and experience of mental health conditions is useful for this opportunity. We are looking for people who reliable, friendly, caring, have good communication skills and are good at motivating and gently encouraging other people.

During your application, a DBS (Disclosure Barring Check) may be done depending on your volunteer role. Your volunteer contact will support you with this and a positive disclosure doesn’t necessarily disqualify you from volunteering with is. The DBS is free of charge and will involve filling out an online form and bringing proof of ID.
